Accessible Bathroom FAQs

Whether you’re looking for information about costs, grants, installation or choosing the right accessible bathroom, we’ve answered the questions we hear most often. If you can’t find the answer you’re looking for, our friendly team is always happy to help.

The cost of an accessible bathroom depends on the size of the room, the products you choose and any additional adaptations required. At Assisted Living, our accessible bathroom solutions typically start from around £6,250 for a professionally installed walk-in shower, with wet rooms and walk-in baths varying depending on your requirements.

Every quotation includes a free home survey, expert advice and a tailored design, so you’ll know exactly what’s included before making any decisions.

Some people may be eligible for funding through a Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) or local authority support. Eligibility depends on your physical and financial circumstances, the adaptations required and your local council.

If you’re unsure whether you qualify, please contact your local authority or council. Any further advice on costs and adaptations, please feel free to speak to one of our friendly staff members.

A walk-in shower uses a low-level shower tray, while a wet room has a fully waterproofed floor with level access throughout the shower area.

Walk-in showers are often the most cost-effective option, whereas wet rooms offer completely level access and are ideal for wheelchair users or those planning for future mobility needs.

The best shower depends on your mobility, balance and future needs. Most customers choose a walk-in shower with a low-level tray, thermostatic controls, grab rails and a fold-down shower seat.

During your free home survey we’ll recommend the most suitable solution for your home rather than a one-size-fits-all product.

While every property is different, a professionally designed accessible bathroom can make your home more practical, attractive to a wider range of buyers and easier to live in for longer.

Many homeowners choose an accessible bathroom because it allows them to remain independent in the home they love.

Most installations are completed within 3 to 5 working days, although larger projects such as full wet rooms or complete bathroom refurbishments can take a little longer.

We’ll always provide an estimated installation schedule before work begins and keep you informed throughout the project.

Yes. Many of our installations are completed in compact bathrooms where space is limited.

By replacing a traditional bath with a walk-in shower or redesigning the layout, it’s often possible to create a safer, more spacious bathroom without extending your home.

Slip-resistant flooring is one of the most important features in any accessible bathroom.

We recommend flooring specifically designed to provide excellent grip in wet conditions while remaining easy to clean and comfortable underfoot.

For most wheelchair users, a professionally designed wet room offers the greatest level of accessibility thanks to its completely level floor and open layout.

However, every customer’s needs are different, which is why we always recommend a free home survey before deciding on the best solution.

In the vast majority of cases, no. Replacing your existing bathroom with a walk-in shower, wet room or walk-in bath does not require planning permission.

If your project involves significant structural alterations, we’ll explain anything you need to know before work begins.
